Renovating a Property in Central Portugal
Counter
We had been in Portugal for 2 years before I stumbled
across this redundant property.

Poiares, Gois, Lousa Serpins and only half an hour to
Coimbra.  South facing, courtyard with additional plot of
land immediately in front.  Solid walls, good roof and
uncomplicated lay-out - four rooms upstairs (studded
walls) and two "Adegas " downstairs.  Separate
outbuilding with potential to turn into a self-contained
guest annex.  No electricity or water, but both mains
connections nearby.  Nice views across the valley.

After two more visits to the property, we put in an Offer
and came to an agreed "buying" price.  Our Lawyer
called in the paperwork, and within 5 weeks we were the
proud owners of this lovely property.

First week in April 2007, we started work.

Our plan was to make the top level into an open plan
kitchen/dining-room and lounge with woodburner.

The "Adegas" to be converted into two bedrooms (one
en-suite with bath) and separate toilet with shower.
across the top of the window.

the end of the Peninsular War.

We started by removing and
rebuilding the front balcony
and the tiled roof covering,
of collapsing
Leading off from the balcony,
there was a small room,
which had been boarded with
timber, which we decided to
open up as an extension of
the balcony to provide a
verandah seating area.
