the Serra da Estrela, now popular for winter skiing,
is a two hour drive away.
The numerous monasteries, convents, castles
and churches stand witness
to the artistic and historical heritage
of this Beiras Region in Central Portugal.

Popular with cyclists and ramblers are the historic schist
villages  - "Aldeias Do Xisto",  

The landscape is dominated by mountains and plateaus,
natural pine forests and crystal clear mountain rivers.

The Mondego River rises in the Serra da Estrela,
down through the romantic City of Coimbra,
and on to the Atlantic Ocean at Figueira da Foz.

Close to Coimbra, the Spa Towns of Luso and Curia are
renowned for the healing qualities of their natural spring
and fountain waters.

August each year, one of Portugal's biggest
Motorbike Festas is held in Gois, attracting bikers from all
over Europe.
