UNIVERSITY OF COIMBRA
Founded by King Dinis in 1290, one of the oldest Universities in the World.
It´s Library has a collection of 300,000 books dating from the 12thC.

Sé VELHA and Sé NOVA
12thC and 17thC Cathedrals.

IGREJA de SANTA CRUZ
12thC Church, remodelled in the 16thC with elaborate Manueline style architecture.

MUSEU NACIONAL MACHADO de CASTRO
Formerly a Bishop´s Palace with a maze of underground Roman Passages;
houses some of Portugal´s finest sculpture.

MOSTEIRO de SANTA CRUZ
12thC Monastry.  Here lies the tomb of Afonso Henriques, first King of Portugal.

MOSTEIRO de SANTA CLARA-a-VELHA
13thC Monastry.  The 17thC "Monastic House" contains the preserved remains of
Queen Santa Isabel, revered as a Saint.

BOTANICAL GARDENS
The largest in Portugal, covering 20 hectares.
