The town of Lousã has intricately decorated 18thC patrician houses, and sits nestled at the base of
the Serra da Lousã, an evergreen forest mountain with oak and chestnut trees.   Numerous view
points, natural swimming pools and picturesque picnic area.

Twenty minute drive from Gois.

Places to Visit:

SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF PIETY
A small Carmalite Sanctuary with four chapels dating from different periods and 15thC limestone
sculptures of Sao Paio and St John the Evangelist.

CASTLE OF AROUCE
Built from local schist stone and dating from the 11thC.  The castle played an important role against
the invasion of the Moors.  

IGREJA DA MISERICÓRDIA
The oldest preserved building in Lousã, built around 1560, with a beautiful Renaissance door.

SALAZARE´S PALACE
19thC building, now the Milia Palace Hotel

SNOW WELLS
Winter snow was stored here then in the summer, transported by oxen cart and boat to the Royal
Palace in Lisbon.

CHAPEL of ST ANTHONY
Commissioned in 1787 by Julio Pereira de Castro, the "Neveiro-Mor", Chief Ice Seller to the Royal
Palace.
