7th FIPS Mouche Youth World Fly Fishing Championship in Central Portugal

Attracting young anglers, between the ages of 14 to 18 from around the world to
the challenges of fly fishing.
Fishing five different sessions of three hours each, all on different rivers.
Scoring based on the number and size of fish caught on a strict "Catch and
Release basis". Only Trout qualified, and the minimum length allowed was
17cm.
Joao and his partner Isabelle participated as Control Officials. Introducing the
anglers to their designated area, checking to ensure use of barbless hooks,
indicating start and finish times, measuring, counting and recording the
number of qualifying Trout caught.
Rivers Alva, Ceira and Mondego in the Concelhos of Gois and Penacova.

The French Team Member that Isabelle
was Controller to on 5th August, was the
current World Youth Fly Fishing
Champion. This year, 2008, the title went
to his younger brother.
The young Portuguese Team Member had
only started to learn Fly Fishing in May
2008 ... so he did extremely well !
At the maximum age of 18, this was the
last Youth Championship Competition for
the young Spanish Team Member,
The Slovenian Team Member that Joao
was Controller to on the 6th August came
third in the Championship. At this stage of
the Competition, he needed only 1
qualifying Trout to be ranked within the
top 3 positions.
